Meg Ryan

Meg Ryan, blonde-haired and blue-eyed, was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield Connecticut to Susan (Duggan) the former actress and English teacher, as well as Harry Hyra, a maths teacher. Meg Ryan is of Ruthenian, Polish, Irish and German roots. ("Hyra" is a Ruthenian surname, and "Ryan" is the maiden name of her maternal grandmother). Meg graduated from Bethel high school, Bethel in June 1979. Meg moved to New York City and studied journalism at New York University. Meg Ryan was her new name and she began acting in order to earn a little extra cash while she completed her degree. 1981 was her debut on the big screen. She played Candice Bergen's baby girl in the film directed by George Cukor Rich and Famous (1981). She was cast in the part of Betsy in the soap opera as the World Turns (1956) after she had a go at. She was in the cast from 1982 until 1984. Meg was also part of the cast in the show One of the Boys (1982), but this show was eventually cancelled. In 1984, she relocated to tinsel town and landed a job in the western television series Wildside (1985). Meg had a small role in Top Gun (1986), and was then featured in Steven Spielberg's Innerspace (1987) In which she co-starred with Dennis Quaid. She again co-starred with Quaid in the remake of D.O.A. (1988) and the couple tied the knot on Saint Valentine's Day in 1991. In 1989, Meg appeared in When Harry Met Sally... (1989) and the scene in the restaurant was a hit. Meg was nominated twice for the Golden Globe and BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. In 1993, she co-starred alongside Tom in Sleepless in Seattle (1993) in which she was again nominated for the Golden Globe. Meg decided to go against the established norms in 1994 in the film of Meg's alcoholic wife and mother "When a Man Loves a Woman" (1994). She returned to being "cute" afterward with I.Q. (1994) and French Kiss (1995). People Magazine voted Meg as one of the 50 most beautiful individuals in the world in 1994.
